Soda Coolers

My final recording was taken in the Union Terrace. Inside they have about 4 or 5 soda coolers that are facing each other. When listening to the motors that cool the coolers there is a slightly different frequency for each motor. When put altogether it creates an interesting collection.

The Empty Room

I wandered into a few empty meeting rooms during my walk and for the most part the empty rooms yielded empty results, except for this one. Now to be honest, I'm not exactly sure what all of the sounds that I have in this room were, because I didn't hear what was going on in the headphones until after I was back at my computer. There was a big cabinet of electronics at the back of the room that I am giving credit for this sound.

In the Stall

So, a very invisible area of the Union in the eyes of most people that frequent it for studying or fooding, is the bathroom. But for someone with some microphones and a recorder, the bathroom is a rich environment to gather sounds. That is what I did and here is what I found.

Pinball Machine

As I wandered further into the rec room I found in the back corner a collection of arcade games. Now I have done recordings in arcades before and I just love the sounds of all the machine as a whole. So once again, I couldn't help myself. I threw my mics on top of a Monopoly pinball machine, threw in two quarters and away I went. The sounds of the pinball machine with supporting sounds made an interesting combination of sounds.

Entering the Rec Room

As I entered the Rec room in the basement of the Union, I walked to the middle of the room and was pelted by a horde of different sounds. There was a speaker directly above my head playing some organ music. Ahead of me there was a bowling class cranking out their games. I was surrounded by pool tables and the idle chatter of people.

Sound Recording Strategy

For this drift my strategy was to inhabit one building and attempt to find as many interesting sounds within the confines of this building. I chose the UWM Union as my building of interest.
